Would you believe this if I say it over the phone that a 330 sq ft apartment has 24 rooms? Most likely you will say "you have gone bananaz". Hong Kong is renowned for this phrase in Chinese 留食不留宿 [liú shí bù liú sù] ~ lit. "can stay to eat but cannot stay overnight" . Seeing is believing as this apartment in Hong Kong was designed by architect, Gary Chang and he calls this the "Domestic Transformer." Check this out..

I would also want a house like this if i move out next time, its too cool to resist.
wow...wow....wow.....nice name too.
Wow...if only we have such house. :p
wow, it's very nice and indeed very innovative and smart on the "space engineering"..
but then everytime need to move the walls, and remember how many walls to move, it's rather tiring.. imagine when you are so tight and urgent one day reach home, you need to move the walls for another 10 minutes before you can sit on the toilet bowl~~ gosh!!
my previous apartment in HK was 600sf, 2R1B + 1 kitchen + 1 living and dining.. i already feel so cramped.. and this is 24 rooms in 330sf.. faint!!
so many rooms for what..more cleaning and dusting to do.
Nevertheless, creative thinking lah. Next time hope the 24 rooms will comes with a maid or two :P
That's quite cool. But I guess you can only do one thing at a time huh? I usually cook and watch TV. work and watch TV - that can't be done in this case. I guess they just need to get use of the limited space. Don't we take space for granted?
can i have this one for my own? LOL!
Cool concept though not very practical and requires a lot of muscle-work, I should think. I wonder if it's good from the fengshui point of view. hmm.. Still, it's a great space-saving idea. Thanks for sharing, Bananaz.
LOL on what SK said about needing to go potty.
But then again, there was no mention of the washroom/toilet. Perhaps that portion of the house is at a permanent location according to the apartment layout.
I Think that's a nice concept - Transformer home! - an idealistic system for expanding population & MAXIMISING usage of space in creative manner...way to go for creative thinking
yes, i watched this movie chip somewhere. He will be millionaire in Hongkong. Feel a bit lucky that we stay in Malaysia... we dont have this kind of problems. should we hahahahaha a bit :D
24 rooms.. very incredible!!
wow.. amazing! but i kenot imagine having to live like that.. pulling n pushing the wall all the time...
yeah i watched the video before... he did a great job!!! :) but quite troublesome in some way when you need to do all stuff for kitchen, bedroom, etc
Origami architect!
Aloha from Waikiki :)

mNhL இ haha yeah nice name
Tekkaus இ coz of space constraint they have no other choice..
[SK] இ spot on 'space engineering' that's the power of the mind.

Ai Shiang இ oh you shall not have this space problem in Australia land too big..
Caroline இ OK shall built one for you when I learn how ..you slow slow wait..haha
HappySurfer இ after the 24 combination one got to master the exact 'cabinet' and during emergency a potty should be handy just in case open the wrong compartment haha.
MRC இ yo way to go..great mind
CH Voon இ yeah thank your lucky star you dont have this problem in Malaysia yet..haha
Renaclaire, Merryn, fufu, Cloudia & Blue இ yeah lots of pushing and pulling could be quite a task moving things around..tQ
Oh yes I have heard of living in over-crowded conditions in HK.
A marvel! Transforming living indeed!!
Mei Teng & Keats இ those olden days heard the parents & children slept with half their bodies on the bed with legs on the floor..coz of space constraint.
Gary, the Domestic Transformer is one brilliant guy. It just shows how innovative the younger generation is, the same youngsters who grew up in the age of instantaneous everything. I'm sure it won't be a problem with the z-generation (?) who are good at multi-tasking.
I guess Gary will think of using remote control soon. I remember visiting my employer in Korea 10 years ago and they already incorporated remote control via the clap of hands, or a phone call to activate the hot water system for baths and turn on the rice cooker. Gary can make a call from his mobile phone while on the way back from work and by the time he reaches home, the walls are turned and tables are set, so he can have dinner without wasting a single minute.
Now, I shall appreciate my teenage son's tendency for multi-tasking even more and nag his less ;-)
Autumn Belle இ great ideas on pre heating and cooking while on his way home with remote or clapping of hands etc. Technology will always have improvement as years go by..tQ
Yes, so so true. The mind is like a parachute...it works only when it's open. I like this quote. Thank you for sharing.
I bet this magical home still has room for all those big books of boobs and others. LOL!
cleffairy இ in life when people are faced with challenges their minds will then be fully open.
HappySurfer இ hope the author, Dian Hanson would start to write something about big books of 'big' rooms lol..
