இ Random facts VI ~ As Years Go By

The Old Geezer.
*The Old Geezer was the 64th commenter in my last post "When U ЯR 64". Oh what a coincidence! He wrote an enlightening comment ~ "Old age ain't for sissies! Do not resent growing old. Many are denied the privilege!" Profound and insightful words of wisdom from a wise man. Almost coming to the end of my 7 Random Facts of Bananaz, one more to go. A picture paints a thousand words. Kindly bear with the time for uploading as it may take awhile. Its all about the adventures of Bananaz in his 20 something, turning 30, pushing 40 reaching 50 making it to 60 hitting 70 and gracefully hope to get into 80 and perhaps more. (Sorry for the poor condition of the old scanned photos).

By looking at the two pictures above one should be able to tell some stories and the year. No prize for guessing. Yup its Woodstock, the Psychedelic Flower People, Peace and Make Love Not War.  Cannot see any ears or shoes and the bell bottoms or commonly called in our local lingo 'hala hala' could go around at 25 inches. Singapore had their strict rule of 4 x 2 meaning the hair at the side must have two fingers clearance from the ears and 4 fingers from the back of the neck. Never been to Singapore until late 80's. The picture of little Bananaz is a classic example of 4 X 2 haircut. Noticed the hair parting? As a boy would part the hair from left to right which is the norm for guys those days but got it changed from right to left during secondary school and what about the watch? It's on my right hand all becoz Bananaz wants to be different.

1970's ~ Full throttle: It's almost every young men's dream to drive a machine full blast without the fear of getting a speeding ticket. Powered by a two-stroke adapted chainsaw McCulloch 87cc engine and slick tyres to grip on asphalt road. When the chief track marshal at the starting point announced "Start your engine!", the adrenaline really started pumping. Go Kart races were mostly held in Penang with the 'racing track' start/end at the main Post Office and only been to a competition once in Taiping.

1970's: Where's Bananaz? Clue: The person who defies superstition or taboo over unlucky number?

1980's ~ Mount Aso: is the largest volcano in Japan, and one of the largest in the world. That was the closest Bananaz ever landed the feet at the crater. Honestly with the current quakes and eruption around the globe we may not have the opportunity to be near volcano. According to Wikipedia an erruption that took place from 300,000 to 90,000 years ago created a huge caldera, 25km across north to south and 18km across east to west. Its circumference is estimated between 80 and 120km.

1990's: The two hours wait for this ride was worth the while, imagine travelling at a top speed of 160km/hour and a free fall straight down from 115 metres. Venue is Dreamworld, Gold Coast Australia. The 'Tower of Terror' with Speed: Up to 160 km/hour, Height: 115 metres or 38 storeys, Length: 330 metres (=3 football fields), Track Length: 400 metres, Acceleration: 0 to top speed in 7 seconds, Weightlessness: 6.5 seconds, Gravity Forces:4.5 G's. Location of Bananaz: second row second from left.

1990's: The view is spectacular from up above Mount Kinabalu and the greatest pleasure in life is doing things that others say you cannot do which is against my doctor's recommendation not to climb mountain. In 1997, a re-survey using satellite technology established its summit (known as Low’s Peak) height at 4,095 metres (13,435 ft) above sea level, which is some 6 metres (20 ft) less than the previously thought and hitherto published figure of 4,101 metres (13,455 ft).[(Said this before in previous post). ]

awesome bananaz, just awesome! I was wondering if you're from the same decade as my father, because he does look like you when you were young, complete with the hair and bell bottom pants. My dad is a retired teacher aged 66. I miss him now, feel like rushing back to penang just to see him. Can't wait for my house to be ready in KL, so can invite my parents over here.

lena said...

i wonder what makes 70s hairstyle so popular then? looking back anow, it made a man looks feminine actually! so vast difference looking at you from the 70s to 80s and now..i remember seeing your recent photo at a 'blind leading the blind 'event you had put on a lot of weight since then.oh, dont worry, you will age gracefully till 8 and past 90.!

இ Baŋäŋaz இ said...

Isaac Tan இ Cannot be Bananaz is only 36..hahaha Quite near your dad but have not cross the golden years yet. tQ

lena இ tQ for the reminder shall go for my gym and morning brisk walking again. True my weight was very consistent in the past but lately increased slightly. Still wearing my working pants made 16 years ago. Guess 'blame' it on the Beatles for those long locks which we considered 'groovy' then hahaha.

LifeRamblings said...

great to see a different perspective of old-time photos. you were so leng chai.

LifeRamblings said...

It is common to see bellbottom pants worn by people in photos taken in the 70's. I guess when bell bottoms were in fashion, they looked good. But looking at the pictures now, they're outdated liau.

LifeRamblings said...

i don't think i'd ever go for the tower of terror. i'm such a scaredy cat and besides, i'm too old for this.

LifeRamblings said...

wow, good thing you've conquered MK. the views are truly breathtaking. you looked so stylo up there.

Yannie said...

As years go by, you still listen to 倪安東. Thumbs up. You young at heart.

Twilight Man said...

I must tell you that your post has awakened me a lot about humans and old age. I am the youngest in the family and having to tend to old parents here.

Twilight Man said...

The dude in No 14 must be you! So cool and handsome nia....!

இ Baŋäŋaz இ said...

foongpc இ OK lah boleh tahan, life a bit kind. Those days the 4x2 haircut was so square then. Bananaz fav number is #13 ~:). Better climb Mt Kinabalu go go go. tQ

Alice Law இ Sorry to disappoint none of the above of what you mentioned. Maybe timing was not right *lame* of perhaps no guts to do that hehe..tQ

Pete இ Jom..you jump I jump. tQ.

Life Ramblings இ Heard the bell bottoms are coming back haha. I was 'complaining' about life but after I posted and looked back, life is not that boring after all got all the excitement those days. C'mon age is just a number coz Bananaz always feel like 36 *ahem*. You can do it if you want to. tQ was leng chai & stylo once upon a time. You be the judge might search for my latest pix until till age 80 if I can find them hahahaha.

rainfield61 இ tQ for dropping by. That was a great quote just as when I tried to switch doing things using my left hand a friend thought I went cuckoo and added I should walk with my hands instead of my legs.

Alice Law இ Oh really, the kids liked my version of 'roll roll roll your dough!' hahaha.

இ Baŋäŋaz இ said...

Twilight Man இ Ouch ouch ouch! The youngest and the most spoilt kid right? hehe. You mean #13 no got #14 woh..Oh our DOM with his Mt Aso@#$%&!muahaha tQ.

Sheoh Yan இ Bananaz always young at heart. Love that particular song by 倪安東 the very first time I listen to 988 and dunno know who or the name of the song until I heard it again the second time from 988. Was lucky the DJ mentioned the song name but cant grasp the singer's name got 'tong' something. Did a search..viola found it in YouTube just like the same song for Y2J heard it from 988. Also love it the very first time and through trial and error heard the song again and wrote it in pinyin got it translated and did a search. Once I set foot on something I love no matter what it takes Bananaz would go all out for it and I did it my way.. ~;). Btw do you like the two songs? tQ.

இ Baŋäŋaz இ said...

Twilight Man இ Sorry cant remember the time pixz were taken. Was up at the summit quite close to 6am. Probably pixz were taken after I have inhaled tons of fresh air into my lungs so the time could be between 6-7am..~;).

Keats The Sunshine Girl இ Not sure would love to wear them now hahaha.

Autumn Belle said...

I think those bell bottoms looked very matching with the hippie hairdo and peace-sign belts and chains, just like the Bee Gees. Did you go have a drain-pipe jeans and John Travolta Saturday Night Fever walk?

No. 13 was my lucky no. when I started work. My company address was no. 13, Jalan 13 in Section 13!

Aha, my DH and I have a lot of sentimental memories related to basketball. Was it what attracted Mango to Bananaz?

willie a.k.a reptoz said...

Wah! You went to interesting places. And my dad has a lot of photos with those fashion and hairstyle.

Netster23 said...

36? confusing! How come your beautiful daughter look like college going? Ehhh daddy your daughter single ah? Hahahaha

இ Baŋäŋaz இ said...

Autumn Belle இ Sometimes hard to explain on the trend. Oh yes Travolta with his one index finger dance point up point down here there and every where haha. So 13 is your lucky number and ho ho ho basketball ball slam dunk both you and hubby together eh that's interesting to know but not Mango she dont play basketball. You have a great break tQ.

willie a.k.a reptoz இ Got a colleague who often laughed at my old NRIC coz of the old photo. So she told me when she is upset to show her my NRIC..cool eh..hahaha. tQ

Netster இ 36 is in the mind *ren lao xin bu lao* hahaha. Nikki is still single but you got no chance bro you are married hahaha.tQ
