இ When U ЯR Sixty Four

Sorry would like to pause on the 7 Random facts about Bananaz with five down two more to go. Cannot wait to post this interesting article received in an email by a buddy friend about growing old with A.A.A.D.D. (Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder). Bananaz shall kick off another 'section' about senior boomers titled 'When U ЯR Sexty Sixty Four' though a bit too early knowing all of us are pretty young and young at heart too. Age is mind over matter. If you don't mind it doesn't matter. Birth, sickness, old age and death 生老病死 *shēng lǎo bìng sǐ * is inevitable, life is impermanent and death is certain. Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional and laughing at yourself is therapeutic.

Thank goodness there's a name for this disorder.
Somehow I feel better, even though I have it!!

Recently, I was diagnosed with A.A.A.D.D. -
Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder.

This is how it manifests:

I decide to water my garden. As I turn on the hose in the driveway, I look over at my car and decide it needs washing.

As I start toward the garage, I notice mail on the porch table that I brought up from the mail box earlier.

I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car.

I lay my car keys on the table, put the junk mail in the garbage can under the table, and notice that the can is full.

So, I decide to put the bills back on the table and take out the garbage first.

But then I think, since I'm going to be near the mailbox when I take out the garbage anyway, I may as well pay the bills first.

I take my cheque book off the table, and see that there is only one check left.

My extra cheques are in my desk in the study, so I go inside the house to my desk where I find the can of coke I'd been drinking.

I'm going to look for my cheques, but first I need to push the coke aside so that I don't accidentally knock it over.

The coke is getting warm, and I decide to put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold.

As I head toward the kitchen with the coke, a vase of flowers on the counter catches my eye--they need water.

I put the coke on the counter and discover my reading glasses that I've been searching for all morning.

I decide I better put them back on my desk, but first I'm going to water the flowers.

I set the glasses back down on the counter, fill a container with water and suddenly spot the TV remote. Someone left it on the kitchen table.

I realize that tonight when we go to watch TV, I'll be looking for the remote, but I won't remember that it's on the kitchen table, so I decide to put it back in the den where it belongs, but first I'll water the flowers.

I pour some water in the flowers, but quite a bit of it spills on to the floor.

So, I set the remote back on the table, get some towels and wipe up the spill.

Then, I head down the hall trying to remember what I was planning to do.

At the end of the day:
the car isn't washed
the bills aren't paid
there is a warm can of coke sitting on the counter
the flowers don't have enough water,
there is still only 1 cheque in my cheque book,
I can't find the remote,
I can't find my glasses,
and I don't remember what I did with the car keys.
Then, when I try to figure out why nothing got done today, I'm really baffled because I know I was busy all damn day, and I'm really tired.

I realize this is a serious problem, and I'll try to get some help for it, but first I'll check my e-mail....

Do me a favor
Forward this message to everyone you know, because I don't remember who the hell I've sent it to.

Don't laugh -- if this isn't you yet, your day is coming!!

Alright Banz this is nice story to go with it plus The beatles song

I also like these sentence : "Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional and laughing at yourself is therapeutic."

Nice posting - so make sure you're living up to 64 as well (at least) with your significant half :)

Lol), that's why some people don't smoke pot (ha ha) Yesterday someones was harping on receipts..I have an empty cardboard container piled with a bunch of them near my bed- temporary-natch. So I said hey, this is how I'm keeping order- then took my fist and shoved them to the bottom!! Course was joking but I can relate and to that song.
After I got my first batch of seedlings planted a month ago..the remainder (like about ten packs) just disappeard? No idea what happen?
My mom used to smile when she'd hear it when I was young(er). This was a serious kind of fun. Wishing you a great week-

My dad is 83 and he speaks like you on these matters. Many of us still live in denial about the facts of lives we have. I appreciate how you have awakened me.

Isaac Tan said...

Oh my... AAADD, doesn't sound pretty, and at the end of the day, nothing seems to get settled. :( It seems funny in a way though. ><

Connie said...

hahaha! You made me laugh with this one, Bananaz! Yes, it is so true! We are easily distracted, and the older we get the worse it is. I like the Beatles song too--goes well with this post. I hope you are having a good week! :)

5 years to go...in my case, and thankfully, I'm fine!! Or at least, that's what I like to believe. None of those disorders or whatsoever, praise the Lord!

London Caller said...

Why 64 huh? Not good, Chinese people don't like 4 one.
I prefer 69 leh! Ha ha...

So this 3A2D, is it a type of dementia?

Alice Law said...

That's multitasking in a way. I've heard of husbands wondering what their wife does at home. Life's like that - exasperatingly funny at times. Love that song.. Love The Beatles esp John Lennon. Thanks.

Hopefully i'm still alive at the age of 64.

Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder.. wow, such a confusing term that i need to read couple of times before i can digest it.. haha!! but i guess not only 64, many people will still have this disorder even at younger age.. so, albeit named with Age, it doesn't really necessarily relates to age..

[SK] said...

or perhaps for younger ones, the list of things undone could be 1/3 shorter?? haha.. i guess i have experience this before, but not as bad as 20 items in the list, perhaps just merely a couple or a tad more.. :)

My day is sure coming - I still want to dance, laugh, enjoy everything before I do not even get to say my goodbyes.

இ Baŋäŋaz இ said...

Pete இ How nice to go fishing may I ask land fishing for China dolls or deep sea fishing?

London Caller இ Ooops Sorry forgot the name of my blog been searching it until contacted blogger haha. No specific disorder meant to be a joke. Think 6+4 is a perfect 10. Oh 69 is my old house number haha. tQ

Alice Law இ Huh your husband! Need to do more brain exercises play more mahjong or start a blog. Bloggers got no such problem haha. tQ

இ Baŋäŋaz இ said...

lina இ Have a great week. tQ

eugene இ Hello you are so fit can live till 90 also no problemo. tQ

Cloudia இ "now what was I saying?" Who say what? haha tQ

இ Baŋäŋaz இ said...

HappySurfer இ Multitasking with no productivity haha. Most husbands can never understand the job of a housewife. Read one article that the wife said goodnite to her hubs and start doing the house chores while on the way to the bedroom like keeping the clothes, preparing the children's school uniforms, clear the rubbish bin etc etc and only get to bed 2 hours later while the husband is still glued in front of the TV. tQ

Wai Kitt இ Sure you will tQ

Luciana இ Izzit? Nah you exaggerating? Women are better multi tasker than men its sort of proven already.

இ Baŋäŋaz இ said...

One இ Relax you are perfectly OK most of us are busy but end of the day cant recall what we have been busy about. Simple test ~ can you remember what you had for lunch yesterday? 9 out of 10 cant recall clearly. Dr Quack signing off..haha.tQ

London Caller இ Sorry no got 3A2D apologise to have kept you waiting. Besides cant remember his own blog name, the old man walk slow type also very slow been typing whole day now only reach this column.

Gratitude இ No need to see you facial expression can guess from your Wakakakakakakakakakakakakakakaka...hope you didn't break the floor. tQ

comes next day, repeat all over again!sounds frightening leh..can pengsan like that..walk here walk there and nothing's done! but then again, i think we dont hv to worry too much abt then, what is more important is now. Enjoyed reading this though.

இ Baŋäŋaz இ said...

Casendra இ Can't be serious only an email joke but we do have old people going through this. Wish them well. tQ

[SK]இ In a few more hours from now..Wishing you many happy returns of the day. One year wiser bro. True young people do forget easily and one or two is acceptable.

Keats The Sunshine Girl இ "You've gotta dance like there's nobody watching, Love like you'll never be hurt, Sing like there's nobody listening, And live like it's heaven on earth." — William W. Purkey.

Ermmm shall not be laughing as i am in the same boat too although in another 2 years will be reaching 30s....LOL .....STP adviced me to take more gingko...

levian said...

oh gosh, i didn't wanna imagine that day coming at all! truly only 1-thing-at-a-time period.

இ Baŋäŋaz இ said...

Tekkaus இ Sure or not? You got to be kidding me eh. Sometimes one of two items could slipped our mind. haha tQ

Yee Ling இ 30 is only half way not to worry keep the mind occupied with blogging you are ok. Yeah agree many people talking about gingko. tQ

levian இ Need to train the mind to be aware and that could be train even though your may be 104. My dad was 92 and can remember the code number of the company he invested in stock market. Imagine my dad, an illiterate investing in stocks & shares merely by the numbers? I salute his determination and ability.

yvonne said...

Hahaha!!! Ok, I'm not laughing at you here, but your entry really reminds me of someone.... ME. Oh my, I didn't know there's a name to this condition and many out there are experience the same as me. And I'm just half of 64!!

Yannie said...

I suggest you read 7 habits of highly effective people by Stephen Covey, especially first thing first habit. By the way, I have encountered situation like yours too, especially when the body and soul are not in union. lol!

இ Baŋäŋaz இ said...

yvonne இ Women are better in multi tasking than men maybe your have overloaded yours slow down a bit haha. tQ

Sheoh Yan இ Yup first thing first must be very focus tQ for the reminder shall do a revision. We all will go through this scenario once in a while. Eg after walking a few steps then stop, starts to recall whether got locked the car or not, this is quite common even young people in early 30s face this problem which we often say no 'awareness'. haha. tQ.

wenn said...

it's not funny..sometimes it does happen to us even though we r young.

LOL!! That's why the doctors say do not multi-task but do one thing at a time! Haha!! Although I notice doctors do multi-task : D

foongpc said...

Actually this happens to me too, but not until such extreme. LOL!! I would start with doing one thing which leads to another and then another and I realize I have not done any of them! : D

இ Baŋäŋaz இ said...

wenn இ The mild ones are forgetfulness and pre-occupied due to no awareness haha. tQ

Netster இ Haha lolz again..tQ

London Caller இ Got one account with wordpress but not doing anything about it. Well technical glitch do happen on and off. So where are you moving to?

foongpc இ It happens to everybody to be absent minded at times haha. Not easy to multi task. tQ

Hmmm... what did I have for lunch today? Tough one. I haven't taken my breakfast yet.

இ Baŋäŋaz இ said...

One இ Oh dear breakfast is a very important meal for the day go fill it up your 'engine' needs fuel to get going haha. Have a great weekend.

LifeRamblings said...

i'm not a good multi-tasker. i can only do one thing at a time. i can't even talk while driving. having to juggle so many things at one time is such a stress and definitely not in a timely way for me.

LifeRamblings said...

oh my,I wonder how my 64's turn out. I have not put much thought into this age issue. I'm trying to live every moment to the fullest while keeping myself as healthy as possible. as they say, don't worry, be happy. :)

I'm sorry I'm late in visiting and wishing you a belated Happy Father's Day!

Oh, I thought AAADD is Triple As Daddy Dude. AAADD could be a sign that our internal CPU needs some mental defragmentation, e.g. go for relaxation/meditation. Yes, I do agree that laughting at ourselves is one way to address AAADD. Haha haha haha .................
