இ Pretty Woman..

Once upon a time a big monk and a little monk were traveling together. They came to the bank of a river and found the bridge was damaged. They had to wade across the river. There was a pretty lady who was stuck at the damaged bridge and couldn't cross the river while on her way to attend a wedding.

The big monk offered to carry her across the river on his back. The lady accepted. The little monk was shocked by the move of the big monk. 'How can big brother carry a lady when we are supposed to avoid all intimacy with females?' thought the little monk.

But he kept quiet... The big monk carried the lady across the river and the small monk followed unhappily. When they crossed the river, the big monk let the lady down and they parted ways with her. All along the way for several miles, the little monk was very unhappy with the act of the big monk. He was making up all kinds of accusations about big monk in his head. This got him madder and madder. But he still kept quiet.. And the big monk had no inclination to explain his situation. Finally, at a rest point many hours later, the little monk could not stand it any further, he burst out angrily at the big monk.

'How can you claim yourself a devout monk, when you seize the first opportunity to touch a female, especially when she is very pretty?

All your teachings to me make you a big hypocrite The big monk looked surprised and said, 'I had put down the pretty lady at the river bank many hours ago, how come you are still carrying her along?'

This story reflects the thinking of many people today. We encounter many unpleasant things in our life, they irritate us and they make us angry.

Sometimes, they cause us a lot of hurt, sometimes they cause us to be bitter or jealous.. But like the little monk, we are not willing to let them go away. We keep on carrying the baggage of the 'pretty lady' with us.

We let them keep on coming back to hurt us, make us angry, make us bitter and cause us a lot of agony.

Why? Simply because we are not willing to put down or let go of the baggage of the 'pretty lady'.

Shall we let go of the pretty lady immediately after crossing the river? This will remove all our agonies. There is no need to be hurt by the unpleasant event after it is over. The past is gone, the future yet to come..LIVE NOW..!!

Indeed! A great reminder to live forward instead of backwards. Thanks.

leaving that baggage behind is such hard thing to do....but if you really want to move on, then better do your best to forget them and leave baggage for good...

another lesson to learn here. dnt keep grudge n shall live on. :)

p3chandan said...

I agree with bluedreamer27, move forward and live on dont let the baggage drag you down into a world of despair..

i think the main point is his state of mind and his intentions. I suppose the big monk didn't carry the woman for enjoyment and with a perverted mind, but just as an act of courtesy or gratitude.

mNhL said...

When we keep unhappy thoughts in the mind, we will get more confused and angry. Sometimes, let it out and be happy.

suituapui said...

Carry only...not so bad. In the Christian teaching, if we look at a pretty girl and have lust for her in our hearts, we are committing adultery...

Small Kucing இ nothing religious here just stressing on freeing the mind with the heavy load of baggage.

HappySurfer இ Yo! move on..

bluedreamer27 இ More than often its the baggage that is holding most of us back making us cannot forget the past. Yeah move on bro.

Caroline இ True let bygones by bygones. Easier to forgive than to forget.

p3chandan இ tQ for dropping by. Yeah dont drag the baggage and hinder our progress..move forward.

Life Ramblings இ True the state of mind of the big monk is crystal clear with no other intention behind only compassion to help that poor lady.

இ Baŋäŋaz இ said...

mNhL இ Right! We can only learn through our mistakes from the past but not to carry the baggage along.

suituapui இ Aiyo looking at pretty woman is a sin then I rather stick on as free thinker longer..hehe. Absolutely correct! Thoughts are things and the mind is very powerful.

Autumn Belle இ Very well said. Your Attitude determines your Altitude.

I love the ending. ^_^

I guess moving a lady across the water is better than building some 7-storey pagoda. =p

truly :)

anyway sometime you can't forget certain thing that easy though.

personally I think we should just drop all the negative things in our life no matter how hard it is.

Ah, well, you know we have to have things to bolster our ID. Too sad. Fine post.

Thank you!

Good sharing. I tot the big monk would say 'you notice she is pretty meh? I only see her as a human in need of help...' :P

இ Baŋäŋaz இ said...

Netster இ True hard to forget but easier to forgive.

JamieDedes இ Thank you

Alice Law இ Yeah! Forgiving is much easier than forget.

இ Baŋäŋaz இ said...

yvonne இ Great move discard the baggage which stops the progess.

Keats The Sunshine Girl இ The heavy baggage slows everything down

+Ant+ இ Soon the luggage dept gonna explode haha.

Casendra இ Haha quite imaginative, yeah have friend who said that too that he sees a pretty lady as a human being nothing more than that.

wow, posting stories from Linda Tan for two consecutive posts yeah?? but i like this, how you explain on letting go of things we do not like..

[SK] said...

but actually if it's to save people, i guess there's no wrong for the monk to have "intimacy" with the pretty lady.. it's actually how you perceive things.. if you are thinking of helping then it's perfectly ok, but if you are just keeping to the inflexible philosophy of life, for sure you find everything going wrong..

[SK] said...

that's helping people with a sincere heart without thinking of return.. so likewise you say, forget the past as they are history, what's more important is present.. and look forward to how you should move on to the future.. :)

Aiyo, pretty lady how to forget leh.....ha ha ha!

Good lesson,we should speak out our disagree immediately with open heart?

Have a proper conversation to solve the problem, am i right?

cleffairy said...

To forgive is one thing, but to forget is another, and how do you exactly stop resentment from building in your heart? Sometimes, some things cannot be controlled.

TG said...

I would carry my girl and build her a 7-story pagoda ;) Does Mr. Banana approve of such behavior?

இ Baŋäŋaz இ said...

[SK] இ All thoughts good or bad would revolves around and inside the mind. Thoughts are things and we have to be constantly aware of our thoughts and to "arrest" bad thoughts from arising and eventually they would not emerge. Of course its easier said than done need practice.

Pete இ thinking of Richard Gere & Julia Roberts hehe.

CH Voon இ Many ways of interpretation. Yes it may be good sometimes to get the 'unhappiness' off the chest immediately instead of harbouring it for days or weeks to make it even more worst.

இ Baŋäŋaz இ said...

cleffairy இ Agree to forgive is much easy than to forget. Have to be aware of the mind telling the thoughts to *go away* eventually they will over time. Its possible of course not overnight.

MKL இ Haha no problem you can even choose to build a 9 story for her. Wishing you speedy process with your papers so you can fly over to build the pagoda for your darling future wife. All the very best.
